Parents of children under the age of 18 who are getting divorced must attend a parent education program, (PEP). In addition to divorcing parent, a judge may also require people in other family law cases to attend a PEP. These programs help parents understand how to handle the challenges their families will go through and tries to reduce any stress the children may experience.
Parents in a divorce matter must register for an approved program within 30 days the original complaint being served upon the defendant (other parent). Parties not involved in a divorce matter but who have been ordered to attend a PEP by the Judge, must register for a program within thirty (30) days of the order.
Each parent must pay $80 to the provider in advance. If you cannot afford the $80 fee, you may be eligible to pay a reduced fee of $5 by submitting an Affidavit of Indigency to the court. If the waiver is approved you must submit a copy of the approved waiver to the PEP provider.
Once registered, you must file the Affidavit Confirming Registration with the Court. Then, after you complete the program you will receive a Certificate of Attendance which must be filed with the Court no later than thirty (30) days after completing the program.
